Canon Rebel T3 - Buy Cheap But Get Value
Posted June 19th, 2011
The Canon Rebel T3, by almost anyone’s standard, is a cheap digital SLR. But, even though it doesn’t require a second mortgage on the house or selling off your first-born, it delivers the goods in terms of image quality. The Rebel T3 (not to be confused with the T3i) is an upgrade of the wildly popular Canon XS. When buyers started getting the word out about the XS model, it began flying off the shelves in huge numbers. In fact, it is still number one on Amazon’s best seller list! Is Cheap An Indication Of Quality? What people discovered is that you can get great pictures from a camera that does not require a college education to use correctly. In this writer’s opinion, if you take the same untrained photographer, someone who is just getting into digital SLR photography, and put a $600 (Canon T3) camera in their hands, then put a $2700 (Canon 7D) camera in their hands, the images will be similar in quality. What kinds of people use Digital SLRs? The age of digital photography is upon us, and so many more people are interested in taking and sharing their pictures. There are parents who want to preserve family memories, young adults who find the creative aspects of photography fascinating, avid sports fans who love taking photos of their favorite events, celebrity fans who want to record their concert appearances, nature lovers wanting to explore the wonders of creation, and just about any other use you can imagine. These people are upgrading from point and shoot cameras to digital SLR cameras to get better results. For many, their choice is an entry level DSLR camera. They want to get the quality without the hassle of a steep learning curve. The Canon T3 is maintaining the tradition of the XS in that a new photographer can start shooting with this camera right out of the box and get the great images they hoped for. What are the upgrades? Yes, the new Rebel is definitely improved. Since the release of the Canon XS a few years ago, digital technology has increased by light years. The new 12-megapixel CMOS (vs 10-megapixels) sensor has better quality, plain and simple. There is also the addition of video, which everyone is now expecting in digital cameras. Add to that the tons of creative additions to the camera software, and you have a much better camera for all aspects of camera use. What about price? Digital SLR for less than $600 are now common. Nearly every manufacturer has a cheap DSLR. Many who buy at this price point will keep the camera for years and be happy as a clam. But if considering getting more serious about photography and extra lenses equipment, check out the lens choices for future possibilities.
