Digital Photography - A Primer For Beginners

Posted December 27th, 2010

Digital photography has exploded over the last few years as the price of cameras and other equipment comes down and the number of websites goes up. You can get a relatively cheap digital camera for not very much money and can take it with you anywhere without the pain that goes with carrying film, changing film, worrying about developing the photos and all the other things that used to be attached to traditional photography methods. Sharing your pictures with the world is as easy as buying a camera and setting up a free account on one of the many photography websites. Want to make some money from it? There is a huge market for stock photography and micro-stock photography on the internet. Why not jump on this growing trend!

One of the best aspects of digital photography, especially for beginners, is that your mistakes are free! While you used to pay for the film, then take the pictures and pay to have them developed, with digital photography you take the pictures and then load them onto your computer and delete the ones that you don’t like! It makes it far cheaper (not to mention easier!) to experiment with your photographs until you get just the shot you want. Once you’ve bought the camera and the memory card then there is no more expense, no matter how many pictures you take!

This experimentation makes it much more fun to take photos where you wouldn’t normally think to do so. There’s probably some interesting things around your neighborhood that can make some great photographs, so why not grab a camera and try it out. You’ll have some fun doing it and if none of them turn out then you can delete them all and try something else tomorrow! The only thing you lose is a little bit of time. Frankly, even the time is well spent since you had a great time doing it!

Digital photos can also be a lot more flexible than regular photos. Once you have taken some great shots editing them becomes a snap with some of the software that is available. There are some great resources online for cropping (cutting pieces out) photos and editing other aspects of them without spending anything at all. Free image software is easily found with any of the major search engines and can help you make your good pictures great! You can then post them online and let your friends see what you’ve been doing or sell them on the stock photography sites to make a few extra bucks.

Decorating your horse is easy with some of the printing software available as well. If you don’t want to print them on your own printer then you can have the images printed at somewhere like Kinkos in whatever size and shape you want. Frame them yourself and you can have images that you have taken decorating the walls of your home. That way you get the enjoyment of taking the pictures and turning them into something beautiful as well as the pride in having them hung all over your home. Every picture has a store attached to you’ll have a great conversation piece whenever someone stops by.

Area you ready to get started yet? Digital photography has so many benefits that its hard to explain in one short article. If you’re ready to get started then try reading this article on how, where and with what to get started: http://www.squidoo.com/a-beginners-guide-to-digital-photography
