Posted June 16th, 2010

Black and white modes in photography are essential for beginners in photography. At one point in time, each photographer should learn the fundamentals concerning color photography. One needs a firm grasp of the basic elements of photography in order to learn about color photography. It can be divided into easy elements.

It begins with contrast. Contrast refers to the differentiation between the darkest and lightest elements of an image. With this style in photography, there are only three tones - high contrast, medium contrast and low contrast. However, with color photography it is rather more complex. In color photography, you have color contrast compared to the tone contrast of white and black. It is determined by the way every color act together with the surrounding colors.

Then you have the color temperature. You can give attention to details such as the temperature of colors. Various lights will have effect in various color temperature. It is similar to the way the sun does not look the same in different times of the day. There are several technical measurements of temperature and it involve tint. Tint is commonly called white balance. The sensors and films are developed with a specific type of light in mind, and there are many time photos that are taken in various lighting conditions. It will affect on whether white would look remarkably white. A great example of this would be of a photo shot under a fluorescent light would have a green tint to it due to its color temperature under that light.

Whenever using temperature when you shoot, you have to determine which color and tint is perfect for your photo. Warm reddish tints that are given during sunsets are flattering to human skin. Cooler bluish tints are perfect for neutral photography products. You can fine-tune the white balance in numerous ways. You can adjust it with your camera via filters, edit the photo in a dark room or even use a photo manipulating software. It is similar to shutter speed and aperture. It is a fantastic idea to shot several times on a different setting to allow you some flexibility.
