Tips on Wonderful Portrait Photography

Posted August 23rd, 2010

There is a lot of photographers who think that portraiture is one of the most challenging styles in photography. This is an intricate work of art in capturing people and their individuality. It sometimes needs years of study and on hand experience. However, that does not mean that there are not a few tips that you can implement for your photography routine. There are tips available to help take your portraiture to a higher notch.

Opt for Candid

You will find that there are many photos with smiling subjects looking directly to the camera. These photos have their own spot in photography but they do not convey the subject’s personality. The art of taking the photo of your subject whenever they are not paying attention is called Candid Photography. This has become increasingly well known at events such as wedding. They reflect that actual emotion of that momentous day. It is a captivating sight to see a photograph of a mother singing a lullaby to her child rather than both of them smiling directly at the camera.

Covering it up

It is a fantastic tip to somewhat cover your subject to get a more appealing photo. This will let your viewers be drawn to certain features such as hand, eyes or mouth. This is also an excellent style to add in color by including a vibrantly colored scarf and increase your photo’s creativity.

Get Outdoors

You can consider taking your subject to a place where they can relate the most. In the instance with prenuptial photos, you can have the photo shoot to a place where they spend most of their time together such as the beach or the park. You can have this opportunity in thinking outside the box and get a portrait that is unique and stands out.

It is important to make an effort in understanding your subject and their wishes for the shoot. Do not be afraid to offer some fun ideas. It is recommended to have fun and keep the creative juices flowing during your session.
