Ways to Save Images to Your Computer
Posted August 29th, 2010
Taking photos of precious moments is a favorite hobby of many people. Celebrations wouldn’t be complete without capturing images of people whether in a pose or in action. But gone are the days of the film because the trend today is creating digital images. Compared to the film, images taken from digital cameras can be stored in a number of ways. They can also be printed fast and easy once they’re already saved on your computer. So the first thing you need to do after taking those important photos is to transfer them to your PC. Get the USB cable that connects your camera to your computer. Once connected, you will then be prompted on what to do next so follow the instructions carefully. Keep in mind that your camera needs to be turned on in order for you to transfer the photos to the PC. There are some computers, however, that have built in digital card readers. If you are not aware of this, check the manual of your PC. With a card reader in your computer, all you have to do next is to just get the memory card of your camera and then insert it in the appropriate slot making sure that it’s in the right direction. Do make sure as well that you save your images to a location that you can easily find. The best thing to do is to create a folder and name it properly so you can identify its contents right away when you’re searching for your photos. Put the date, too, if you want so you can better organize your images later. To create a new folder, just right click on your desktop, select “new” and “folder.” You can then name the folder. When you’re sure about the location, you can then start to copy your photos to the appropriate folder. A message will first pop up which will ask you what you would like to do with your images. You have to choose “Copy pictures to a folder on my computer.” While you’re in the process of copying, you may also see a “browse” button. If you click this, be sure to select desktop and then search for the new folder you have just created. Next click save or ok to finish the task. Transferring numerous photos, such as in the hundreds, may take quite some time. Images with huge megapixels normally create huge files. For this reason, you will have to ensure beforehand that your computer has enough storage or disk space to accommodate your photos. Do back up your photos as well if you wish to delete those in the memory card. Saving them on a USB drive or a disk is a good alternative. Once they’ve been successfully transferred, it’s time for you to view them. Check each one to find out if they need editing or if you’re already okay with what you see. You can then decide to edit them if you’re not satisfied with the quality. Depending on what you like, you can crop them or improve the colors and contrast.
