How to Sell Pictures to Magazines
Posted February 4th, 2011
Would you like to sell pictures to magazines and journals? Many popular magazines regularly purchase high-quality images from freelance photographers around the world. These days many people wanting to sell photography automatically think of selling photos through stock agencies and microstock sites but you should not overlook the fact that magazines are traditionally one of the best markets for freelance photographers. Also, magazines cover almost every topic imaginable so whatever the subject of your photography you can usually find some good publications to match. Some examples of popular magazines that pay freelance photographers for pictures include Alaska Magazine, British Columbia Magazine, Women in the Outdoors, and Conservationist. These are just a few examples but there are hundreds more. How to Find Photography Markets If you want to find magazines that purchase photography then try searching online for the phrase “Freelance Photography Guidelines”. In the search results you will discover many publications that pay photographers for images, and details of how to approach them and sell your images. Some will ask you to go ahead and send some images you would like to sell, while others may want to see a portfolio of your work before giving you an assignment. Do Magazines Buy Digital Photography? Most publications already accept digital photography. Check with the publication’s freelance photography guidelines for their requirements on resolution and other image specifications. Selling photography to magazines can be quite profitable and also very satisfying. Just imagine… how incredible it would be to see your photograph on the cover of your favorite magazine!
