The Art of Selling Photographs Online
Posted June 24th, 2010
Photographs are a very popular commodity both for online and offline sales. If you are already a photographer (either beginner or professional), you may have wondered if it is possible to make a profit or even a living selling photographs online? The answer to this question is yes, but it is going to take time, work and patience in order to to be successful at it. But with the right knowledge, strategy and technique, you should be able to make a nice income through online photo sales. If you have professional quality photographs you want to market, one idea may be to sell your photos at an online art fair. However, the competition can often be stiff, and you have to offer quite a range of photographs and image sizes. It can cost a lot of money upfront, although you may profit well in the end through this avenue. Microstock photo sites are another place to think about selling photographs. You may have better luck with this and there should be no upfront costs. The downside is that you often have to upload hundreds, or even thousands, of photos to earn a substantial income from microstock sites. Having your own website is another way to go about marketing and selling your photos. Again, there will be some upfront fees, but you will be able to keep much of your profits this way. Regardless of your strategy, you need to know how to shoot good photos in order to be successful with online photo sales. So if you decide to get serious about online photo sales, you need to learn all you can about good digital photography technique. You can make money by selling photographs online, but there are many people that are using this to make money from and you have to stand head and shoulders above the crowd no matter what channel you can use to sell them from. So you need to do some research into channels and places to sell. Selling photographs online can be done if you are not afraid of competition and hard work, and it can be a good home business opportunity for many. Take a look at some of the photos that are currently being sold online and ask yourself one question: “Can I do that as well?” If the answer is yes, then look for subjects to photograph for sale on the internet. There are many different niches that a photographer will have to choose from that can be used for selling online.
