Create Photo Books For Graduation

Posted March 17th, 2009

If you have a student who will be graduating this year, consider creating a photo book to preserve their school memories. Graduation is a great fit for photo books because you can present a year-by-year look at the student throughout their school career.

If you will be having a graduation party, a photo book can be passed around to the guest for viewing and writing their own personal comments, if desired. Pictures taken during the graduation party can also be added to the book later to provide the student with all of their graduation-related memories in one convenient place.

The first place to start to create a great graduation photo book is with the annual pictures taken by the school. This gives you a nice, neat progression of your child throughout the years. For older pictures that are not in digital form, you can use a scanner to get the photo onto your computer’s hard drive. You will need a quality flatbed scanner in order to get a decent resolution image. If you don’t have one, you can take the photos to a copy store or place an order with a photo scanning service.

A little bit of planning ahead can help you add personal comments from your the graduates classmates and friends from school. Many photo sharing sites permit comments and notes from visitors. If you are using an online site to create your photo book, you can post the pictures you intend to use so that the graduate’s friends can add their own comments and memories. Throw in a few of these comments when you are printing your photo book. This lets all of the graduate’s friends be involved in the process and gives a much more personal alternative to the standard school yearbook.

Custom created photo books are also an excellent way to share your photos after the graduation party. Family members can upload any pictures they took at the party into a public or shared online album. Then you can either share those photos with the rest of the family right from the site or you can add those pictures in and create an updated graduation book. For added privacy, you can set up your graduation photo album as private and only accessible by people on your friends list. Then each family member can have their own account to contribute pictures for you to use when you create your book.

After the graduation party, add any additional pictures into the book you created and send a complete copy to the graduate. You can announce to your other family members that they can purchase their own copy of the entire photo book or any specific photos they like. Using digital photography to create your book makes it very easy to reprint another copy of any photos you may need. Everything can be shipped directly to each family member’s house, eliminating the need to address envelopes and purchase postage stamps.

MJ Johnston writes for a variety of websites, including Hoorray, a photo sharing site that offers the quickest and easiest way to create a free online photo album.
