Digital camera secrets.

We all admire the great digital photos the pros take. We’d like to take great digital photos ourselves. When we try….

Well, let’s just say the results come up short.

The lazy answer as to why is to claim it’s because the pros have better equipment. While that’s true, that’s not why they get better shots. The secret is more in what they have in their head than in their hands.

If you want proof, hand your camera over to a pro and see what they can do with it. Same equipment, very different results.

The truth is that these days even basic point-and-shoot digital cameras have remarkable capabilities. The problem is that most users don’t have any idea how to make the most of them.

The basic beginning is to read the owners manual. Most people don’t beyond learning how to turn the camera on and take a basic photo.

The manual will detail your camera’s features, tell you what there for and how to use them.

Pick one to become familiar with. Learn it’s controls and play with it. See what results you get.

One of the great things about digital cameras is that experimenting is free! (I remember the film days when my film budget was a definite issue.)

After you’re comfortable with one feature, move one to another. That way, you’ll gradually become familiar with what your camera is capable of and how to control it.

Then, when you’re taking a snapshot, consider the options you have and whether using one might improve your picture. Chances are, it will.

Of course, the pros have lots of other secrets besides mastering their camera that helps them capture pictures as beautifully as they do. I found an absolutely splendid guide that moved my digital picture taking to a whole new level. I talk more about that on my blog
